In Which I Witness A Verizon Customer Who Sucks...

I need a new Blackberry for work and pleasure, so I scampered through the door at the Verizon store about 20 minutes prior to closing. The only rep there was helping a couple with a complicated purchase, so I figured I'd have to wait, and asked if it would be a problem. She said no, but locked the door at 5, the official closing time.
Around 5:20, I'm thumbing through one of their catalogues as the rep and the previous customers finish their transaction when a woman shows up at the door. From her appearance and behavior, I'd guestimate her age at 45...going on 12.
( PLEASE let me in, I know it's past closing, oh my GAWD, I can't believe you're making me wait my turn! )tl;dr...Woman shows up outside Verizon store 20 minutes past closing, begs and pleads until salesgirl lets her in, then bitches about having to wait until us customers who were there BEFORE closing are finished buying our phones.

Fantastic baked breaded chicken or turkey recipe
In desperation for a better way to cook chicken I combined several recipes and twice now this has worked out beautifully, so I thought I'd share it. (I love food all the time, but winter makes food even more of a religious experience.)
For starters, I brine my chicken and turkey before I do anything else (hot smoke, pan fry, bake, roast, whathaveyou). Once you taste it that way, you can't ever go back. So, a quick overview of brining is below the other recipe.

Entertaining with the anti-story. You must see this.
This wonderfully entertaining review of Phantom Menace, through its dissection of the problems with the movie, starts to carve out what I think of as the "anti-story". As a storyteller, its helpful to recognize the negative space around what works, at least within a particular genre.
I have to admit, part way through this review I was starting to wonder if Lucas was actually trying to go surrealist on movie making the way, say Gertrude Stein did with poetry. You know the way Stein believed that language/words and grammar were limitations on her art. For a few minutes, while watching this, I started to think maybe Lucas thought, hey, characterizations and plot, those are limitations on the art. And I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt that he was actually doing something very different from what everyone thought. But then the scene comes up where they are screening the movie to the big wigs involved in making it. And Lucas has his head in his hands. Guess not.

Better yet, as further props to the review as a set-piece. The reviewer manages to do exactly what Lucas fails at: he creates dramatic tension, and even manages some plot arc. In a review. It's nicely done, especially given (or perhaps because of) the weird casualness of it.
Oh, by the way. DO NOT start watching this unless you have 70 minutes of time blocked out. I'm serious.

Count of Monte Cristo Discussion
Others have mentioned they liked this book, so I'm hoping to get a little discussion going. I'm going to cut the book up into 10 chapter chunks for analysis. I'm trying to limit myself to reading a chapter a day (otherwise I simply don't stop reading, ever), but in reality I'm going a little faster than that, so 10 chapters will be roughly a week.
I think some spoilers are inevitable here, sorry for that. This book withstands full spoilerage though, I've discovered upon re-reading an unabridged copy after getting 2/3 of the way through.
1st off, and most importantly, if you are going to read this book, do not bother with an abridged version. Your recommended edition options are: the Modern Library Classics, the Everyman's Library (which you may find at a used book store or a close version of it here for free ), or the Penguin Classics. Don't bother with any others.
